Club Nights

INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLUB

CLUB NIGHTS

Swim club nights are on a fortnightly basis conducted on Wednesday evenings.  These nights are the most important function the club performs.  This is where we provide swim races for all swimmers from novice through to State and National levels.  It also provides swimmers’ parents and coaches an opportunity to display newly learnt skills in a racing situation.  All races are swum in a friendly non-threatening environment.  Swim races are organised to the best of our ability according to each swimmer’s level.  Boys and girls swim together as well as for points according to their times and improvements.  Points are awarded for swimming and improvement of personal best times (P.B’S).
*Nominations for club nights are required to be in by 6.45pm.  To help with nominations even more, it would be appreciated if swimmers especially the ones involved in training on the afternoon of a club night could have their nominations submitted before training or the day prior to the club night.
On club night we need help with timekeepers and other official duties.  Our pool deck organisers will be more than happy to teach you how to take times etc.  All assistance is greatly appreciated and it allows you as parents to become involved in your child’s sport.

“Swim the first night for free and decide later if you would like to join our club.  Anyone is welcome to come to one of our club nights to see what goes on and meet our friendly club committee and members, this is the only way you will know if our club is right for you and your child”.

BBQ Dinner

Each club night we have a dedicated band of parents, who put together a great barbeque that has been our major fundraiser for a number of seasons.  We invite all club members to come along at 5.30pm to purchase a burger, and have the night off from cooking dinner. It has been extremely successful and this year with your support it will grow again.  Food and drinks will be available from around 5.30pm – 7.00pm each club night.

CLUB COMMITTEE MEETINGS

Club Committee meetings are held at 6.00pm once a month during summer (usually 3rd Tuesday in the Month) and every two months in winter.  Keep an eye on the newsletter for meeting dates. All members are most welcome to these meetings.

Yeronga Park Swimming Club Inc ~ President’s Message 2011 ~ 2012

Welcome to all our new and existing members and those of you who are thinking of becoming a member of Yeronga Park Swimming Club for the 2011~2012 swimming season!  As you know, no club can operate without a dedicated committee and I would like to personally thank all the Yeronga Park Swimming Club committee in advance because just by wanting to help the club by joining the committee you have helped make it a success already.  With the help of this year’s dedicated committee, parents and those wonderful hard working swimmers, we will have another successful and  fun season of swimming. Shelly Douyere (Vice-President), Amanda Van der Zant (Secretary), Katie Dorrstein (Treasurer) Sandy Rogers (Race Secretary) Jo Rogers (Registrar), John Donald (Chief Recorder), Rob Donald (Assistant CR), Mel Berardo (Clothing), Gary Breakwell (Health & Safety Officer & QSA & BSA Delegate), Scott Blew Assistant Health & Safety Officer and assistance from Karen Blew our Club Liaison and welcoming officer.

This season we once again have the great honour of having foundation members Mrs. Hazel O’Brien and Mr. Russell Henry as our Patrons, Shelly Douyere (Life Member & Lessee) and Rick Van Der Zant (Coach) to give our club a solid foundation for the coming season.

Our swimmers are our most important asset and the committee endeavour to ensure that they will all have a wonderful, rewarding and most importantly, a fun time this season.   There is honestly nothing better to see than that smile on your child’s face at the end of a race! I want to ensure that everyone has a year packed with wonderful memories, fun times, great friendships and success in the pool from their efforts and your support.  `Part of being a team is also looking the part so don’t forget to see Mel to purchase club shirts, hats togs and shorts which make the kids really feel part of a team, both on club nights and at swim meets.  To make our club nights run smoothly we rely on support from parents and to this end all we ask is that you lend a hand on club night.  It is a great way to get to know the rest of the Yeronga Park families.  Whether it be timekeeping, (which is a really fun way to spend the night and the kids just love it when Mum or Dad are on their lane), helping on the BBQ, or just making sure the kids are having fun, every little bit helps.   Ted Curtis has kindly offered to come along on Club nights to share his wealth of knowledge and assistance with anyone who is interested to learn more about officiating.

Fundraising plays a very important role in the successful running of any club and we ask you all to support Yeronga Park Swimming Club.   This can be as simple as having a night off the cooking and purchasing dinner at the club BBQ, buying and or selling a few chocolates when we have chocolate drives.  One of our biggest fund raisers of the year is our Annual Swim Meet and this year the meet will be held on the 29th October sponsored again by CHAMPS BODYWORKS a big thank you to owner’s Ivan & Mel Berardo for their fantastic support again this year.  Come along and lend a hand.  You will see how much the kids love swimming in a carnival that is run at their own pool.
This year I really want club members to feel they have a say in what happens to their club.  I would again like to get suggestions from both swimmers and parents as to what they would like to see happen within the club.  Please come and have a chat with me or any of the other committee members.   We are only too happy to discuss anything with you.   We are there to help!!
Swim, hard, fast and strong but most importantly have fun doing it!

Craig Rogers (President)
